Hold on to your butt!
Do your homework
This takes time and be patient because this is important! The first thing that you need to do is find that hot spot in your area or state. You can do this by checking the BFRO sighting database, newspapers, search online forums and even attend some type of bigfoot meetings in your area and talk to some local people that live in the area and listen closely to what they have to say. Once you have this general area of past bigfoot sightings then it's time to map out the area. Google map is an excellent source to look at a particular area and get a feel for it and see what is around and you want to look for things like water, farm land, types of food sources and is the area big enough to support such a large creature. Now that you have determined that this would be a good area it is time to find out if it's privately owned property or state. I personally prefer privately owned simply because there is usually less people in the area that can hinder your chances on having an encounter.
Once you find this area it is time to talk to people but be careful on your approach because it can quickly lead to getting shunned away and now you have to start over. The first thing you want to avoid is when talking to a land owner do not come right out and say ' I think there are bigfoot on your property can I take a look' 99% of the time the door will get slammed in your face and guess what? you are starting over. You want to introduce yourself and just let them know that people in the area are witnessing or hearing strange occurrences in the area and you are wondering if they have heard or seen anything unusual themselves, most of the time the answer you will get is a 'no' but that's ok! Just leave them your contact info and if anything happens they will contact you because now they are curious.
The phone call you have been waiting for.
The phone rings and it's the person that you had left your contact info with, they proceed to tell you that they have heard things that they cannot recognize and they offer for you to come take a look. This is great! but the first thing that you don't want to do is show up in their driveway with a big sign or logo on your car that says anything about crypto related anything. When people contact you, they are contacting you in confidentiality and most of the time they don't want neighbors being nosey so keep it on the down low. Talk to the person and ask what they have been seeing or hearing on their property but don't be pushy because they will not tell you everything, they need to get a feel for you also because the last thing they want is some gun slinging nutcase on their property. Now that you have talked to the person, ask them if there is any way that they can show you around the property or if you can investigate it yourself. Most of the time when the property owner is curious on what's going on they will escort you around and show you things that they have noticed.
Now that you have established trust with this person it's time to start your research. If you carry firearms with you make sure you ask the property owner if they mind and if they do, that is ok. Ask the property owner what kind of wildlife is in the area and if need be you can carry pepper spray and I also recommend a bright flashlight with strobe option because this can deter curious predators in the area. If you choose to carry a firearm with the owner's consent then please keep it hidden from view because sasquatch don't like them. Talk to the property owner and see if it's ok to bring one person with you, do not bring more than one person because it can be a bad thing and ruin it for everybody. Once everything is squared away and your foot is in the door 'so to speak' it's time for research.
Getting the feel
The first thing is getting the feel for the property, walk this property many times during the day to find property boundaries and make sure you don't step onto someone else's property because that can be a bad thing too. Scout the area and look for signs of activity like structures, prints and also look for any signs of bedding areas. Now keep in mind that everything is not sasquatch related, there are many things that have been done by nature and you have to keep this in mind. Let's say you find some type of interesting stick anomalies in the area, look around you and determine if these branches are from the same tree or neighboring trees, if so it is probably natural. When finding foot prints or something that looks like a print, look at it real close and always take many pictures at different angles with some type of reference so it will help show the size and cast it if at all possible. I can't stress the point enough of walking the property during the day many times to get used to the area because once you start a night investigation the property has a totally different feel at night and you can get disoriented really easy and find yourself lost.
Now it's time to get the research underway, you and your partner and sometimes in many cases the land owner will be present. Get your camp setup and your gear prepped and ready to go. Do not set out trail cams, this will decrease your chances on having an encounter, sasquatch don't like these either. I do recommend setting out audio recorders in certain areas to try and capture some type of vocals and don't be discouraged if all you get is wildlife recordings because researching an area will take some time and you have to be patient. When researching an area I always recommend wearing the same colored clothing or wear something like a bracelet or anything that will let any sasquatch in the area know that it is you, they will notice this and you want to gain their trust so possibly they will come in closer. Don't feel pressured to think that you have to beat the trails constantly, you are there to observe and not interact. Set up camp, build a fire, cook some food and get that aroma in the area and be natural and act natural, if they are there, they will come. Sometimes when researching an area with possible sasquatch activity it can take months or even years to have a sighting but just because you don't see them doesn't mean they don't see you!.
Many people have tried different methods to try and lure in sasquatch, many of these do not work such as food gifting. First of all you have to know that this is only my personal opinion and also methods that I have tried in the past. You see and hear of people gifting food to sasquatch and over night the food is missing but there is nothing to prove that sasquatch ate it. My guess is that you are feeding the wildlife in the area but if that is what you are into then I have no problem with that, I am just simply stating that I do not use this method. I will tell you of a method that has worked in the past for me but it might not work for you, We have conducted research during the day and had taken a break for dinner and then conducted more research in the early evening and then to stir things up a bit ATV's were ridden around the property and surrounding area late at night to stir things up a bit and it worked. It seemed almost every time that we did this we had some type of strange activity in the area such as vocals and team members have heard bipedal footsteps and also one sighting witnessed by the research team and the property owners. When it comes to sasquatch and you want to get their attention you have to think outside of the box, you are in their home and they are intelligent and will outsmart you.
I guess to sum it all up find that area and be natural, most sightings that have happened are usually by people being natural and conducting their lives the way they normally do. Shy away from trail cameras and if you carry firearms please keep them hidden. Get out and enjoy nature , make some noise to gain attention such as talking, laughing and being yourself. One thing to keep in mind is patience, this will take some time and do not get discouraged if nothing happens in months or even years, if they want you to see them let them make the choice.
